The Spirit of the Earth Apparel Collection

Since 1980, Spirit of the Earth has actively participated in helping to make Santa Fe, New Mexico the artistic and handcrafted design epicenter of the American Southwest. Santa Fe is renown for fine Native American art as well as the artistic creations of artists and craftsmen influenced from all corners of the globe. Its sunny, vast high desert atmosphere and its numerous museums and hundreds of unique studios and shops have made Santa Fe a world focal point for fine art and design.

Spirit of the Earth is the home of the exquisite, original Tony Malmed Jewelry Art as well as the flowing Spirit of the Earth Apparel Collection. First, in their original location at the Inn at Loretto Hotel and now at their new location on Don Gaspar Street, just off The Plaza de Santa Fe, Tony and Gayatri Malmed have been greeting old friends and new with warmth and innovative offerings that have pleased thousands of visitors from around the world.

Gayatri's clothing collection is soft, sensual, textural, colorful, timeless - the drape and feel of their sueded rayons, sandwashed silks and lush velvets empower the senses. Her designs are created locally and as far afield as Morocco and India. From their experiences in Afghanistan and India throughout the 70s, Tony and Gayatri bring a unique ethnicity and uncommon feminine grace to their designs. "Our clothes seem to help awaken or encourage, quite naturally, that subtle grace that all women are blessed with," says Tony. Gayatri laughs, "No matter where we go, beautiful things seem to have a way of finding us."
